Spent too much time playing games? Don't worry about it.

You have spent you entire day, yesterday playing video games or watching TV, or maybe both. Was it a good choice? Was it a bad choice? Does it matter? What ever choice you have made, worrying about it today will not change what has come to pass. Yes, of course, you can take note of it and do better in the future, but right now you should focus on what you are going to do today. It's been said many times that "the rest of your life starts today". Every day is a new start to your life and you should take it as such.

The doctor recommends that you sleep 8 hours. Assuming you do sleep 8 hours, this means you have a good 16 hours left of the day to use as you see fit. Let's look at one of your usual 9 to 5 days:

Yes, I know... I exaggerated on many of these, but even so, every day, you have 240 minutes at your disposal to improve and get better. Timothy Ferris said that you can master anything within 6 months, but he also believed about meta-learning, that is learning how to learn, faster and easier. If you spend 3 to 4 hours to improve yourself for 6 months, what would you be able to achieve? Assuming an average of 3 and a half hours spent per day, within a year you will have accumulated almost 1300 hours or 7 months of working 8 hours per day for someone else. Yes, that is in 12 months of working for someone else, you can also spend 7 months working for yourself at the same time.

"That's almost a great plan", you will say, "but you forgot about leisure time and social time". Actually I haven't forgot about it. You have plenty of time on the weekend to socialize with your friends and family. What about leisure? I want to live a happy life. Well, you should probably remember that that which brings us the most happiness is the feeling of accomplishment. Having a goal and feeling that you have worked towards it will bring lasting fulfillment. Watching TV or playing video games, are an escape, providing you with virtual goals, but they will not bring any kind of satisfaction. The more you escape, the more unhappy you will feel. So, do not worry that removing this kind of leisure from your life will make you unhappy, because working on yourself will give your life a purpose and they will make you happy.
